Champaign County EMA attended Rantoul's first  Spring Fling on Wednesday, May 9, 2012.  This was an opportunity for residents to meet one another and speak with local first responders under non-emergency circumstances.


The Champaign County ARES group held a Storm Spotter Safety Class at the County EOC. Steve Hilberg of ARES (Amateur Emergency Radio Service)  presented the class on safety awareness and spotter reporting procedures to the group.
Officials gather in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to coordinate activites related to the fourth annual Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon on Saturday, April 28, 2012. The event drew more than 20,300 runners, a record high.


On Friday, May 11th, a presentation for the media was held to bring public awareness on the creation of the first Champaign County Search and Rescue Team.  Champaign County Sheriff Dan Walsh and Champaign County Emergency Management Agency Director John Carlson have joined their respective agencies together to establish a county wide Search and Rescue Team. The end goal is to train teams of volunteers to be at the ready to perform search and rescue of persons, assist in the recovery of bodies, assist Law Enforcement with evidence recovery, support disaster area operations, and promote safety.  This Search and Rescue Team will be units of County government cooperating with citizens to establish a service that benefits taxpayers at very little cost.


LEPC Meeting (3/23/2012)

The Champaign County Emergency Management Agency is actively engaging the Local Emergency Planning Committee. Representatives of first responders, medical, transportation, education, and businesses required to report their use and storage of hazardous materials met on March 23, 2012 to hear a presentation from Kathy Allen, Manager of the Hazardous Materials Section of the Illinois Emergency Management Agency. It was announced that Champaign County is in receipt of a grant under the Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness Program.
